Spinning

Spinning is a type of workout that involves stationary bike riding in an indoor, classroom type setting. It was actually started, in practice, by a man named Jonathan Goldberg....though spinning itself was not officially introduced until later by a company called Mad Dogg Athletics. The workout program is usually intense, fast paced, and very effective for getting you in shape.

Basically, participants set personal goals for themselves based on what their heart rate normally is while riding at a certain speed. Often, different terrain is simulated by changing resistances, and the riders often pedal to the beat of music while riding.

There is usually an instructor leading the class. This instructor will lead them through routines of different resistances designed to maximize workout time. Good instructors are usually motivating, enthusiastic, and will coach the participants to help them do their very best. One of the major advantages to spinning and indoor bike riding is in the ability of every participant to set their own goals.

When you ride a bike outside, you usually do not have a choice as far as terrain goes. Inside, however, you can alter the resistance to your liking, making it easy to perform a workout that fits your fitness level.

Spinning is a type of exercise that burns a lot of calories, and is also a great cardiovascular exercise. In addition, it can also help to tone muscles. It will tone your hamstrings and quadriceps, and will also work your back and hips.

If you are looking for a spinning class, or for an indoor bike riding class that is similar, you might want to check out your local fitness center and see what they offer. Most fitness centers do offer indoor biking programs, though they may not all offer actual spinning programs.
